HIMSS12 Conference Preps Health Care Industry for Stage 2 of Meaningful Use Program

The main focus of this year's annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference will be Stage 2 of the meaningful use program.

The conference -- which takes place Feb. 20 to Feb. 24 --will offer several town hall meetings where HHS officials will outline their health IT-related goals and take questions from attendees.

In addition, attendees will be able to choose from hundreds of workshops, new product demos and industry networking events on a variety of health IT issues including mobile health, ICD-10 and accountable care organizations.

In an iHealthBeat Special Report by Deirdre Kennedy, conference officials discussed what attendees can expect from HIMSS12.

The Special Report includes comments from:

  • Lisa Gallagher, HIMSS senior director of privacy and security;
  • Tom Leary, HIMSS senior director of federal affairs; and
  • Martin Kohn, IBM's chief medical scientist (Kennedy, iHealthBeat, 2/15).
