Kaiser Permanente Center Experiments With Incorporating Technology Into Hospital Design

During the Health 2.0 conference in San Francisco, Kaiser Permanente showcased its Garfield Center, which allows patients and clinicians to experiment with different layouts for incorporating technology into hospital design.

The center also creates mockups for home-based care that include patient monitoring devices and other new technologies.

In an iHealthBeat Special Report by David Gorn, experts discussed how ongoing technological advancements could affect the design of medical facilities. The Special Report includes comments from:

  • Sean Chai, senior information technology manager of the Garfield Center; and
  • Jennifer Lieberman, director of the Garfield Center.

For its latest project, the Garfield Center is modeling new microclinics equipped with electronic check-in kiosks (Gorn, iHealthBeat, 10/12).
