Health Care Industry Falls Behind Schedule in Preparing for Transition to ICD-10
Much of the health care industry is behind schedule when it comes to transitioning to ICD-10 code sets.
In August 2012, HHS released a final rule that officially delayed the ICD-10 compliance date until Oct. 1, 2014.
In an iHealthBeat Special Report by Deirdre Kennedy, experts discussed the lack of progress in preparing for the transition.
The Special Report includes comments from:
- George Arges, senior director at the American Hospital Association;
- Jim Daley, chair of the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange;
- Kathy DeVault, a manager at the American Health Information Management Association; and
- Jeanne Gilreath, president-elect of the Healthcare Billing & Management Association (Kennedy, iHealthBeat, 5/8).
