Interesting article, Lisa. I agree that game-like mechanics or social components can have an impact in improving the health and wellbeing of consumers. Perficient has seen an increased interest with its healthcare clients surrounding the use of gamification in business. I recently outlined three practical uses for business gamification in my blog post, which include agile project management for implementing EMRs, training staff on new documentation requirements for ICD-10, and maintaining a high level of commitment to quality measures and patient safety. It’s an interesting time in the healthcare industry, as companies are trying to improve the lives of those in the community and decrease costs at the same time. Gamified healthcare is an excellent alternative to help healthcare organizations engage patients in their care and, surprisingly, invest in better outcomes as a result.
