Nearly 58% of surveyed U.S. physicians report that health IT has helped improve coordination of care across different settings and service boundaries, while about 55% say health IT has reduced medical errors, according to a survey from Accenture.
Overall, U.S. physicians rated the benefits of health IT lower than surveyed physicians in other countries.
For example, about 45% of U.S. physicians reported that health IT helps lead to improved health outcomes for patients, compared with the international average of 59%.
In addition, the survey found that physicians younger than age 50 are more likely to believe that health IT has positive effects on a variety of health care issues.
The study is based on a survey conducted between August and September 2011 of 3,727 physicians in eight countries.
