What Do Health IT Stakeholders See as the Biggest Barriers to Health Data Exchange?

Among  surveyed health IT stakeholders, 61% said that funding and sustainability issues pose a major barrier to achieving widespread health information exchange, according to a National eHealth Collaborative survey.

In addition, 53% of survey respondents said that interoperability standards are a significant obstacle to achieving widespread health data exchange.

Forty-six percent of respondents said that challenges related to health care provider adoption are a major barrier to health information exchange, and 46% cited disparate electronic health record systems as an obstacle to health data exchange.

The report is based on an online survey conducted between Feb. 3 and Feb. 17 among 185 NeHC stakeholders.
