Among insured U.S. adults, 5% said they are very familiar with the concept of medical identity theft, and 10% said they are familiar with the concept, according to a survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company.
Twenty-five percent of insured U.S. adults said they are somewhat familiar with the concept of medical identity theft, and 59% said they are not at all familiar with the concept.
One percent of survey respondents said they were not sure or declined to answer.
The survey is based on telephone interviews conducted between Jan. 31 and Feb. 17 among a nationally representative sample of 2,001 insured U.S. adults.
