About 70% of prescriptions were picked up by patients before implementation of an electronic prescribing system, compared with 76.5% that patients picked up after an e-prescribing system was adopted, according to a study from Surescripts.
The study found that 73.2% of prescriptions made it to the pharmacy prior to adoption of an e-prescribing system, while 81.8% made it to the pharmacy following adoption of an e-prescribing system.
Surescripts operates an e-prescribing network.
The study is based on an analysis conducted from 2008 to 2010 of de-identified data from more than 40 million prescription records.
