Do Physicians Believe That the Patient Care Benefits Outweigh the Costs of EHR Adoption?

In 2012, 60% of surveyed doctors said they believe that the patient care benefits outweigh the costs of adopting an electronic health record system, while 40% said they do not believe that the benefits outweigh the costs, according to a report by EHR provider athenahealth and online physician community Sermo.

In 2011, 68% of surveyed doctors said they believe that the patient care benefits outweigh the costs of EHR adoption, while 32% said they do not believe that the benefits outweigh the costs.

The report is based on a March 2012 survey of 507 doctors in Sermo's online physician community, as well as a January 2011 survey of 502 doctors in Sermo's online physician community.
