Eighty-two percent of surveyed CIOs from academic medical centers say they are facing a shortage of IT workers, according to a report by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.

The report found that 69% of surveyed CIOs from multi-hospital systems and 64% of CIOs from individual hospitals or clinics said they are facing a shortage of IT workers. Among CIOs of community hospitals, 59% said they are facing an IT staffing shortage.

The report is based on 163 responses to a July online survey of CHIME members. CHIME's membership includes CIOs and other health IT executives of health care organizations.
