
About 27% of U.S. hospitals responding to a 2012 survey reported experiencing a data breach in the past 12 months, compared with about 19% of U.S. hospitals responding to a 2010 survey, according to a HIMSS Analytics report commissioned by Kroll Advisory Solutions.
Of the hospitals that in 2012 reported experiencing a data breach in the past year, 31% said they had experienced one breach, 28% said they had experienced two breaches, 35% said they had experienced three to nine breaches and 6% said they had experienced 10 or more breaches.
Of the hospitals that in 2010 reported experiencing a data breach in the past year, 43% said they had experienced one breach, 28% said they had experienced two breaches, 15% said they had experienced three to nine breaches and 15% said they had experienced 10 or more breaches.
The report is based on a December 2011 telephone survey of 250 senior IT executives working at hospitals.
