One-quarter of surveyed CIOs believe their organization can meet requirements under Stage 2 of the meaningful use program if the planned Oct. 1, 2012, start date is delayed, according to a new survey from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.
The survey found that 32% of respondents believe their organization can achieve Stage 2 objectives with or without a delay, while 35% said they could not make a prediction.
The survey also found that 58% of respondents think their current IT strategy and existing applications will help their organization qualify for meaningful use, compared with 40% who said so in a March survey.
Meanwhile, about two-thirds of respondents said they expect their organization to qualify for Stage 1 of the program, but not until fiscal year 2012 or FY 2013.
Results are based on an online survey conducted in September 2011 of 198 CHIME members who represent 656 hospitals.
