Fifteen of 48 surveyed community pharmacies estimated that they receive less than 5% of prescriptions electronically, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association.
Among the surveyed community pharmacies, 11 estimated that they receive between 6% and 14% of prescriptions electronically, and the same number estimated that they receive more than 25% of prescriptions electronically.
The study also found that 17 of 24 surveyed physician practices estimated they send more than 70% of prescriptions electronically.
Results are based on 114 telephone surveys conducted between February and September 2010 of representatives from 97 organizations, including 48 community pharmacies and 24 physician practices.
