What Percentage of Health IT Professionals Say Certain Devices Are Covered in Mobile Policies?

Thirty-eight percent of surveyed health IT professionals say their organization has a mobile technology policy in place that governs the use of mobile devices and explains the organization's mobile strategy, according to a survey from mHIMSS, a globally-focused mobile initiative from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.

Of those whose organizations have a mobile technology policy, 90% said their organization's mobile technology policy addresses smartphones, 87% said the policy addresses laptop computers, 82% said the policy addresses cellphones and 71% said the policy addresses tablet computers not designed for health care.

According to the survey, 92% of respondents said their organization's mobile technology policy addresses how to secure devices, and 82% of respondents said their organization's policy addresses the use of personal devices for work purposes.

Results are based on an online survey of 164 health IT professionals conducted in October and November 2011.
