How Many U.S. Adults Go Online To Find Prescription Drug Information?

Data Point Image

In 2009, 102.3 million U.S. adults went online for prescription drug information, according to a Manhattan Research survey.

That figure is up slightly from the 93.5 million U.S. adults who went online for prescription drug information in 2008 and more than double the 45.7 million U.S. adults who went online for prescription drug information in 2004.

Manhattan Research attributes the rise in adults seeking prescription drug information online to several factors, including:

  • Older consumers becoming more comfortable with the Internet;
  • An increase in the number of U.S. adults taking one or more medication;
  • Health care costs; and
  • Pharmaceutical marketers increasingly integrating online campaigns into their promotions.

Results are based on a Q3 2009 survey of 8,600 U.S. adults.
