CMS is seeking industry information about verification systems that are available to support the eligibility infrastructure for health insurance exchanges, according to a notice on the Federal Business Opportunities website, Government Health IT reports.
The federal health reform law calls for the creation of state health insurance exchanges, which will serve as online marketplaces to help residents compare and purchase health plans.
CMS said it hopes to develop a system that would determine whether an individual qualifies for advance payment of the premium tax credit available to help consumers buy coverage through the exchanges.
The agency also said it hopes to identify data sources that could be adapted to support the verification process. For example, a health insurance exchange could check public and private data sources through a CMS data services hub to determine whether an applicant has access to employer-sponsored coverage.
Responses to the notice are due by May 21 (Mosquera, Government Health IT, 5/9).
