GW Researchers Launch New Website on Health Information Laws

On Wednesday, researchers at the George Washington University's Hirsh Health Law and Policy Program launched a new website that clarifies federal and state laws on health information, Healthcare IT News reports.

The website, called Health Information and the Law, is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The site, which is aimed at consumers, health care providers and health organizations, offers a list and comparative analysis of regulations and laws relating to:

  • Health information exchange;
  • Electronic health records;
  • Confidentiality;
  • The HITECH Act;
  • The federal health reform law; and
  • The HIPAA privacy rule (McCann, Healthcare IT News, 5/24).

Sara Rosenbaum -- a law professor at the GWU School of Public Health and Health Services -- said the new website "offers keys to understanding the laws that govern health information and their implications for healthcare, consumer rights, and population health" (Bowman, FierceHealthIT, 5/24).
