GAO Seeks Nominations for Candidates To Serve on Health IT Policy Panel

The Government Accountability Office is seeking nominations for an individual to serve as one of three patient or consumer advocates on the federal Health IT Policy Committee, according to a notice published in the Federal Register, Modern Healthcare reports (Conn, Modern Healthcare, 5/13).

Nominations are due May 25 (Goedert, Health Data Management , 5/14).

Committee Details

The committee -- which was established under the 2009 federal economic stimulus package -- advises the HHS secretary on health IT policy issues. It works through the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT.

The U.S. comptroller general, who serves as the head of GAO, is responsible for appointing 13 of the 24 members on the Health IT Policy Committee. Congress and the HHS secretary appoint the remaining members (Modern Healthcare, 5/13).
