Markets for health IT still are developing in Asia, the Middle East and the United Kingdom, according to a report by KLAS Enterprises, Modern Healthcare reports.
Doug Tolley -- the report's author -- said that those three regions are "upcoming" health IT markets.
In those regions, health IT adoption is "still shallow, with relatively few sites doing deep clinical adoption," according to a KLAS release. The release stated that even when health IT systems are in place, there is low usage of the technology in those regions (Conn, Modern Healthcare, 4/4).
Tolley said, "There are only about 3,000 hospitals outside the U.S. with an [electronic health record system] from a commercial vendor. Without the kind of government incentives that exist in the U.S., it's been a slower build for most countries" (KLAS release, 4/4).
