Department of Labor Launches Online Portal for Health Care Jobs

The Department of Labor recently launched an online platform to help individuals find jobs in the health care sector, Healthcare Finance News reports (Letourneau, Healthcare Finance News, 4/24).

About the Project

The online platform -- called the Virtual Career Network -- was funded by the 2009 federal economic stimulus package.

DOL's Employment and Training Administration sponsored the development of the online tool, with support from the American Association of Community Colleges.

Using the Tool

According to DOL, current and prospective health care workers can use the Virtual Career Network to:

  • Find information on more than 80 health care occupations, including health IT jobs (Barr, Modern Healthcare, 4/16);
  • Look up local education and training programs;
  • Search current health care job listings;
  • Take online courses; and
  • Find sources for financial aid (Healthcare Finance News, 4/24)

DOL eventually plans to offer health IT courses through the online portal (Modern Healthcare, 4/16).
