Health care providers increasingly are using social media tools to search for jobs, according to a report from health care staffing and recruitment firm AMN Healthcare, the Healthcare IT News reports (Monegain, Healthcare IT News, 4/2).
For the report, AMN Healthcare surveyed 2,790 physicians, nurses, allied health practitioners and pharmacists about their use of social media in 2011.
Key Findings
The survey found that nearly one-third of respondents used social media tools to look for a job in 2011, compared with about one-fifth of respondents in 2010.
In addition, nearly half of respondents said they use social media tools for professional networking, the report found (Ritchie, Cincinnati Business Courier, 3/30).
Additional Findings
The study also found that:
- About three out of four respondents cited Facebook as their favorite social media website;
- About 41% of physician respondents said they used mobile devices to look up job opportunities or health care-related content in 2011;
- The number of health care providers using mobile job alerts has increased in recent years; and
- Of the health care providers who are using mobile job alerts, 8% secured a job through such alerts in 2011, compared with 1% in 2010.
Susan Salka -- AMN's president and CEO -- said, "Industry leaders should continue to monitor the effectiveness of various social media networks and related applications as they develop future plans for recruiting, advertising and general communications" (Healthcare IT News, 4/2).
