Humana Cares -- the complex and chronic care management division of health insurer Humana -- has announced a partnership with the National Council on Aging to pilot Stanford University's online Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, Louisville Business First reports.
For the pilot program, 100 Humana Cares enrollees will participate in online workshops designed to provide them with practical skills to better manage chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes and heart disease.
The six-week workshops also aim to help participants manage their health through activities such as:
- Proper diet and exercise;
- Appropriate medication use;
- Symptom management; and
- Communication with physicians.
The first of four workshops, involving about 25 participants, currently is underway. The national pilot is expected to conclude by the end of this year (Robinson, Louisville Business First, 4/12).
Jean Bisio, president of Humana Cares, said the online program is "a truly interactive program designed to help people be more engaged in managing their own health" (Manos, Healthcare IT News, 4/12).
