Organization Releases New Version of Adverse Event Reporting System

ECRI Institute Patient Safety Organization has released a new version of its adverse event data collection and reporting system, CMIO reports.

ECRI Institute PSO said the new version complies with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's Common Formats Version 1.1 and includes the latest standards for health IT reporting (Byers, CMIO, 4/11).

Members of ECRI Institute PSO can submit information to the reporting system manually or import data from their own adverse event reporting tools.

The reporting system currently includes data on more than 100,000 serious adverse events and near misses.

Barbara Rebold -- director of operations for ECRI Institute PSO -- said the organization "encourages IT vendors to map to [AHRQ's] Common Formats to accelerate sharing, aggregation and learning." She added, "This allows [patient safety organizations] and AHRQ to analyze and report information for improvement nationally" (Monegain, Healthcare IT News, 4/12).
