California Telehealth Network Nabs $700K Donation From Insurer

TOPIC ALERT:

UnitedHealthcare has donated $700,000 to the California Telehealth Network to help expand telehealth training and provide technical support for rural and medically underserved clinics and hospitals in the state, the Sacramento Business Journal reports (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 4/10).

CTN is California's statewide partnership for telehealth, which seeks to use broadband technology to expand access to care.

In 2010, UnitedHealthcare provided a $600,000 grant to CTN to help launch the program (Monegain, Healthcare IT News, 4/11).

Eric Brown -- president and CEO of CTN -- in a statement said that the new funding would allow the program to expand beyond broadband services to provide additional technical and operational support to sites across the state (Sacramento Business Journal, 4/10).

Dan Rosenthal -- CEO of UnitedHealthcare of Northern California -- said, "UnitedHealthcare shares [CTN's] goal of ensuring that people statewide have access to the care they need" (Healthcare IT News, 4/11).
