Organizations Release Toolkit on Health Information Exchange

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, the Medical Group Management Association and the American College of Medical Practice Executives have released an online toolkit for physician practices participating in health information exchanges or considering such participation, CMIO reports (Gale, CMIO, 3/1).

The Ambulatory Health Information Exchange Toolkit offers resources on various aspects of health information exchange, including:

  • Business and financial models;
  • Leadership and governance;
  • Participation evaluation;
  • Technical architecture; and
  • Value proposition.

The toolkit also offers information on the health data exchange components of the meaningful use program. Under the 2009 federal economic stimulus package, health care providers who demonstrate meaningful use of certified electronic health record systems can qualify for Medicaid and Medicare incentive payments (Monegain, Healthcare IT News, 3/1).

Health care organizations can access certain parts of the toolkit at no cost, while other parts of the toolkit require HIMSS membership (Conn, Modern Healthcare, 3/1).
