CMS Releases Stage 2 Specification Sheets on Meaningful Use Criteria

CMS has released specification sheets to help eligible hospitals and physicians meet the criteria for Stage 2 of the meaningful use program, Government Health IT reports (Mosquera, Government Health IT, 11/13).

Under the 2009 federal economic stimulus package, health care providers who demonstrate meaningful use of certified electronic health record systems can qualify for Medicaid and Medicare incentive payments.

About the Specification Sheets

For each core and menu objective, the specification sheets describe the:

  • Measure;
  • Objective; and
  • Exclusion.

The sheets aim to help health care providers calculate their numerator and denominator for each objective, as well as determine whether they qualify for an exclusion from any objective.

The specification sheets also include:

  • Definitions of terms;
  • Attestation requirements; and
  • Corresponding standards and certification requirements (Goedert, Health Data Management, 11/12).
