European Market for EHRs To Reach $8.8B by 2017, Report Says

The European market for electronic health record systems is expected to grow from $6.8 billion in revenue in 2012 to $8.8 billion in revenue by 2017, according to a report by Kalorama Information, Clinical Innovation & Technology reports.

Factors Contributing to Growth

The report noted that the European EHR market is expected to grow as governments in the region consider partnerships to:

  • Establish a more universal network for patient health records; and
  • Address rising health care costs and improve care quality.

Challenges Facing European EHR Market

The report also noted that the Europe faces challenges that are hindering the development of a universal EHR system, such as limitations in:

  • Financial and professional resources; and
  • The ability of EHR vendors to adapt to different languages and sets of regulations (Igale, Clinical Innovation & Technology, 10/24).
