Two New ONC Contests Seek Videos on How IT Can Help Improve Care

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT has launched two new video contests inviting patients and families to create short videos demonstrating how they use technology to meet their health goals and manage their care, Modern Healthcare reports.

A total of $7,750 in prize money will be available for each contest, including a $3,000 award for each of the first place winners.

Cancer Care Video Challenge

For the Cancer Care Video Challenge, ONC is inviting applicants to submit short videos about how they use technology to meet a cancer-related goal (McKinney, Modern Healthcare, 10/18). For example, a video could demonstrate how a patient with cancer:

  • Connects to an online community of other patients and caregivers;
  • Uses the Web to better understand his or her diagnoses and treatment options;
  • Uses a personal health record to track and manage his or her care and side effects;
  • Uses online tools to determine his or her best treatment plan, diet and other activities (Cancer Care Video Challenge, 10/18).

The videos must be no longer than two minutes and submissions are due Dec. 12.

Caregivers Video Challenge

For the Caregivers Video Challenge, ONC is inviting applicants to submit short videos about how families and friends use technology to manage care for a loved one.

For example, a video could demonstrate how remote patient monitoring devices can facilitate physician-caregiver communication (Modern Healthcare, 10/18).

The videos must be no longer than two minutes and submissions are due Dec. 10 (Federal Register, 10/19).
