The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT had selected Pinaxis as the first-prize winner in its electronic health record accessibility challenge, Modern Healthcare reports (Conn, Modern Healthcare, 10/15).
The "EHR Accessibility Module Challenge" challenge sought apps that could help individuals with disabilities obtain easy access to their EHR data (iHealthBeat, 1/27).
ONC announced the $60,000 first prize for Pinaxis during last week's Health 2.0 conference in San Francisco.
For the challenge, Pinaxis developed an online portal called Apollo that could allow patients to interact with a health care provider's EHR system over the Internet.
National Coordinator for Health IT Farzad Mostashari said that Pinaxis' portal -- along with other applications developed for recent innovation contests -- will give patients "more tools to better manage their health care" (Clinical Innovation & Technology, 10/16).
