VA Expands its Fleet of Telehealth-Equipped Mobile Health Centers

The Department of Veterans Affairs has added 20 more vehicles to its fleet of telehealth-equipped mobile health centers, bringing the total number of vehicles to 70, NextGov reports.

The mobile health vehicles travel to rural areas to help veterans connect with health care providers through videoconferencing technology.

Alfonso Batres -- chief of VA's Readjustment Counseling Service -- said the mobile health centers also use a satellite system that allows for remote access to:

  • Electronic health records stored in the agency's VistA EHR system; and
  • Other VA medical and benefit systems (Brewin, NextGov, 1/12).
