More than 1,000 people have joined a new social networking website that the Mayo Clinic launched last week to connect consumers with similar health-related interests, the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reports.
The no-cost website is open to all members of the public. It allows users to create profiles, designate privacy settings and participate in online discussions about health care concerns (Stych, Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, 7/13).
The online community also features content from the Mayo Clinic, such as blogs, videos and articles on research advances (Baier, Minnesota Public Radio, 7/7).
According to a Mayo Clinic blog post, the health care organization is "not aware of other online communities like this created by a medical provider group or hospital system" (Cheung, FierceHealthcare, 7/11).
