New Network Designed To Help Reporting of Adverse Drug Events

On Tuesday, PDR Network, electronic health record vendors and other partners launched RxEvent.org, an online network for health care providers and pharmacists to report adverse drug events, Healthcare IT News reports.

The network can be integrated with EHR systems and other online tools (Merrill, Healthcare IT News, 6/14).

In November 2010, the not-for-profit health care industry group iHealth Alliance launched EHRevent.org, a related online service that allows health care providers to report issues associated with EHR systems (iHealthBeat, 11/16/10).

Nearly half a million adverse drug events are reported annually to FDA, but fewer than 10% of such reports come from physicians.

By offering integration with EHR systems, the online network is aimed at making it easier for physicians to report adverse drug events (Goedert, Health Data Management, 6/14).

According to PDR Network CEO Edward Fotsch, RxEvent will improve the convenience of adverse event reporting, be cost efficient for EHR manufacturers and boost the quality of information reported to FDA (Healthcare IT News, 6/14).
