Senators Introduce Bill To Expand Telehealth in Rural Communities

Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and John Thune (R-S.D.) have introduced a bill (S 501) that would promote the use of telehealth for Medicare beneficiaries, the Rapid City Journal reports.

Thune said the legislation -- titled the Fostering Independence Through Technology Act -- would help to bridge distance gaps between patients and specialized health care providers and could reduce health care costs in rural and underserved areas.

The bill has been introduced in previous years but has never passed (Rapid City Journal, 3/8).
