CMS Adds, Updates FAQs on Meaningful Use Incentive Program

CMS has added 11 new questions and updated others on its frequently asked questions Web page on the meaningful use of electronic health records, Health Data Management reports.

Under the 2009 economic stimulus package, health care providers who demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHRs can qualify for Medicaid and Medicare incentive payments (Goedert, Health Data Management, 3/18).

The new FAQs include clarification of the term "reasonable cost" for critical-access hospitals and information about whether large health care practices can register more than one employee at a time for the meaningful use program (McKinney, Modern Healthcare, 3/18).

Other questions address whether eligible professionals can participate and earn incentive payments in the 2011 Physician Quality Reporting System, the 2011 Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program and the meaningful use incentive program at the same time and whether eligible professionals and eligible hospitals must demonstrate meaningful use in the exact way that EHR technology was tested and certified (Health Data Management, 3/18).

The website encourages users who cannot find answers to their questions to contact CMS' regional offices (Modern Healthcare, 3/18).
