Voice-Recognition Software Popular in Health Care Industry

An increasing number of medical professionals are turning to voice-recognition software, the Boston Globe reports.

Reason for Health Care Industry Adoption

Voice-recognition technology is popular among physicians because they are trained to dictate their notes. The software eliminates the need for transcribers by directly adding physicians' notes to electronic health records.

The federal government's push to promote EHR use has contributed to the increase in adoption of voice-recognition software.

In addition, voice-recognition technology has improved in functionality, speed and efficiency due to faster computer chip sets and software upgrades.

According to the Globe, future software upgrades could further expand the use of voice-recognition technology in the medical field (Denison, Boston Globe, 2/14).
