HHS To Build Online Inventory of Research Comparing Treatment

HHS plans to construct an online comparative effectiveness research inventory that will categorize and catalogue federal and non-federal research, Health Data Management reports.

The notice, published in the Federal Register on Tuesday, said the database will be a tool for:

  • Health care providers;
  • Patients;
  • Policymakers;
  • Researchers; and
  • Others.

The notice said the inventory will draw on existing primary data sources, such as:

  • ClinicalTrials.gov;
  • HSRProj;
  • NIH RePORTER; and
  • PubMed.

According to the notice, other information holders seeking to supply data to the inventory can submit their data to one of those primary sources.

The HITECH Act of the 2009 economic stimulus package allocated $1.1 billion for comparative effectiveness research (Goedert, Health Data Management, 1/11).
