Although the health information exchange market is crowded, very few companies have earned the confidence of health care providers and organizations, according to a new KLAS report that examines health IT purchasing plans, Healthcare IT News reports (Miliard, Healthcare IT News, 7/7).
The report investigated the health information exchange purchases or purchasing plans of 95 health care providers.
Of the 38 health IT vendors that health providers considered using, only five companies were considered in more than 10% of purchasing decisions, according to the report.
Frequently Considered Vendors
The vendors most often considered were:
- Medicity, which received consideration in 23% of health data exchange purchasing decisions;
- Axolotl, which received consideration in 22% of decisions;
- McKesson RelayHealth, which received consideration in 16% of decisions;
- Informatics Corporation of America, which received consideration in 11% of decisions; and
- Epic Systems, which also received consideration in 11% of decisions.
Other vendors frequently considered include Cerner, GE Healthcare, InterSystems and Orion (Goedert, Health Data Management, 7/7).
Further Report Details
The report also found that purchasers often consider different types of health data exchange technology based on the structure and management of a health information exchange, such as whether the exchange is public, private or cooperative (Healthcare IT News, 7/7).
