This week, hospitals and physicians in three states unveiled a 12-month pilot project that aims to assess the impact of sharing physicians' encounter notes with patients through online medical record portals, HealthLeaders Media reports.
The "OpenNotes" project is being funded through a $1.4 million grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Pioneer Portfolio and will involve about 100 primary care physicians and 25,000 patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Massachusetts, Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania and Harborview Medical Center in Washington State.
Researchers will conduct surveys to compare the experiences of pilot project participants with physicians and patients who are not enrolled in the pilot (Commins, HealthLeaders Media, 6/8).
