Colorado and Cisco Systems are partnering to launch a pilot project aimed at improving rural health care through the use of telemedicine, the Denver Business Journal reports.
The pilot program is part of the Colorado Connected Communities Initiative. UnitedHealth Group and hospital operator Centura Health are also participating in the pilot project.
The project will use the Colorado Telehealth Network and Cisco's HealthPresence medical diagnostic video technology to connect patients in rural areas with physicians and specialists.
In a separate pilot project with Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, the state will prove online recertification programs to rural nurses (Avery, Denver Business Journal, 3/23).
