Nebraska Health Data Exchange To Expand to Other Regions of State

The Nebraska Health Information Initiative, or NeHii, is expanding its presence from the eastern region to other parts of the state, InformationWeek reports.

NeHii allows health care organizations to securely share patient information, such as:

  • Allergies;
  • Hospital admission and discharge data;
  • Laboratory and other test results; and
  • Medication use.

In 2009, several health care organizations in the region surrounding Omaha, Neb., linked up to NeHii through a pilot project.

Following the conclusion of the pilot, several health care facilities from other regions of the state began making plans to join the exchange.

Deb Bass, interim executive director of NeHii, predicted that 90% to 95% of the state's population would be represented in the exchange by January 2012.

NeHii currently contains data from 1.5 million patients from Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota (McGee, InformationWeek, 2/24).
