Not-for-Profit Launches Contest for Developing Health Data Network

The not-for-profit Kanter Family Foundation has begun a contest aimed at collecting ideas for the creation of a collaborative network that would share health care information, Healthcare IT News reports.

The purpose of the network -- referred to as the National Health Outcomes Data Sharing Network -- would be to advocate for the sharing of anonymized electronic health record data in an effort to improve diagnosis and treatment options.

According to the foundation, the network would consist of at least five million members, including:

  • Families;
  • Health care professionals;
  • Members of the public;
  • Patients; and
  • Patient advocates.

Members would be connected through social media and other tools.

The Kanter Family Foundation is offering $5,000 for the best submission in the 30-day contest, which is being run by InnoCentive (Merrill, Healthcare IT News, 10/5).
