ONC Pledges Greater Openness for Meetings of Panels, Work Groups

On Monday, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT issued a release detailing transparency efforts aimed at making discussions by the Health IT Policy and Standards committee work groups more accessible to the public, Modern Healthcare reports.

The panels are drafting recommendations for health care providers' "meaningful use" of electronic health record systems and other issues aimed at advancing the use of health IT.

The release states that:

  • All work group meetings will be available through a Web cast;
  • Audio recordings of meetings will be available on the ONC Web site within 24 to 48 hours; and
  • Draft transcripts will be available within five to eight business days of meetings.
In a Dec. 23, 2009, blog posting, National Coordinator for Health IT David Blumenthal announced that most Health IT Policy and Standards committee work group meetings would be open to the public (Conn, Modern Healthcare, 1/27).
