Although the technology industry cut nearly 175,000 jobs in 2009, health care IT offers promise for the job market in 2010, according to a new report, InformationWeek reports.
In a recent outlook report, Forrester Research predicts that IT spending will increase by 6.6% in 2010 after decreasing by 8.2% in 2009.
The push by health care providers to implement electronic health record systems to qualify for the first round of federal stimulus incentive payments in 2011 already is creating demand for new health IT professionals, InformationWeek reports.
Health IT products and services vendors are among those hiring. For example, MEDecision hired about 50 new employees last year and plans to hire an additional 100 IT and health IT professionals in 2010 (Kolbasuk McGee, InformationWeek, 1/19).
