Army Halts Deployment of Electronic Dental Health Record

The Army Medical Command was scheduled to begin deploying an electronic dental record application to 18 clinics this week, but Maj. Gen. David Rubenstein, the Army's deputy surgeon general, called for a "strategic pause" in the rollout, according to internal e-mails provided to NextGov.

AHLTA Dental, part of the Department of Defense's larger electronic health record network, has been embraced by both the Air Force and Navy. The internal e-mails did not explain why the Army decided to halt the deployment of AHLTA Dental, but a consultant with the Military Health System said the Army might have decided to move forward with its own electronic dental record, NextGov reports (Brewin, NextGov, 11/3).
