Group Urges Standards Panel To Keep Focus on Prior Recommendations

A coalition of electronic health record vendors recently called for the Health IT Standards Committee to move forward with its current recommendations for data standard implementation rather than revisit its prior decisions, Health Data Management reports.

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society EHR Association offered its recommendations Oct. 29 in written testimony to the Standards Committee's implementation work group.

The association also called for federal officials to offer clear guidance on how to implement the forthcoming data standards.

In addition, the HIMSS EHR Association said that the Standards Committee should collaborate on data standards implementation with:

  • The CONNECT interoperability initiative;
  • The Health IT Standards Panel;
  • The Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise Initiative; and
  • The National Institute of Standards and Technology.

The association said these groups could work together to:

  • Collect promising open-source tools;
  • Document exceptions to certain capabilities;
  • Offer technical support; and
  • Organize additional CONNECT Code-a-Thons (Goedert, Health Data Management, 10/30).
