State Medicaid Programs To Spend $380B on IT, Report Predicts

State Medicaid programs could spend up to $380 billion on IT in the coming year, according to a new report from Input, a business consulting firm, Healthcare IT News reports.

According to the report, titled "Vendors Seeking Health IT Opportunities Will Find Them in State Medicaid Systems," up to 21 state Medicaid Management Information System contracts will expire in the next five years, creating new opportunities for vendors.

Input predicts that management information systems will become the main force supporting state health IT and e-health efforts.

Kristina Mulholland, an analyst for health care and social services at Input, said that "numerous states will be seeking to issue proposals for preliminary systems planning services over the next year or two, so now is the time for vendors to begin making their names known in this space" (Monegain, Healthcare IT News, 8/22).
