On Tuesday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) announced plans to provide residents with online access to their medical records and post health care cost and quality data online, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Pawlenty said that the state's private insurers have agreed to create a shared Web site that will include prices for the most common medical procedures and quality data on the state's health care providers. The Web site is scheduled to launch by January 2009.
He also announced that by next year, all state employees will have access to Microsoft's HealthVault, which will let patients store and access their health records online (Stassen-Berger, St. Paul Pioneer Press, 7/30). Providing access to the system will cost the state $600,000.
Pawlenty hopes to make online health records available to most Minnesota residents by 2011 (AP/Grand Forks Herald, 7/29).
