On Tuesday, Intel launched a new Web site designed to help family caregivers, nurses, social workers and others share information and provide support to one another, the San Francisco Business Times reports. The site was developed in conjunction with the National Family Caregivers Association.
The Web site, called ConnectingForCare, aims to foster a community among caregivers through interactive forums, personal profiles and message boards. The Web site also provides links to the latest research and treatment information on diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and heart disease.
"Family caregivers are providing 80% of all of the long-term care for people with chronic illness and disabilities," Suzanne Mintz, president and co-founder of the National Family Caregivers Association, said in a statement, adding that "it is crucial that we work to establish better lines of communication between all members of the care team."
Marilyne Coblentz, a marketing programs manager for Intel's digital health group, said the new site is not part of Intel's corporate Web site because it aims to help the unserved caregiver community, not market Intel's products or services (Rauber, San Francisco Business Times, 6/17).
