Nevada Medical Board To Post More Doctor Malpractice Data Online

On Friday, Nevada's Board of Medical Examiners unanimously decided to post more information on physicians' malpractice histories online, the AP/Reno Gazette-Journal reports.

The board plans to add the names of all physicians named in malpractice cases that ended in a settlement, award or judgment to its Web site. The site currently includes the names of physicians who have been disciplined by the board and the nature of their infractions, and residents must contact the board to obtain additional information.

The decision to add more information to the site comes after a hepatitis C outbreak at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada, which spurred criticism over the way the board distributes information about the physicians that it licenses and censures.

The board discussed only including cases on the Web site where $5,000 or more was involved but did not reach a clear decision, the AP/Gazette-Journal reports.

The board did not reveal a launch date for the new site (Hennessey, AP/Reno Gazette-Journal, 6/15).
