New Hampshire Insurer Lets Doctors See EHRs Using Mobile Phones

On Wednesday, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Hampshire said it will let New Hampshire physicians use their mobile phones to access patients' electronic health records, Healthcare IT News reports.

Anthem said physicians will have real-time access to the EHRs and medical histories of their patients virtually anywhere they can receive an Internet signal.

Azar Korbey -- a family practitioner in Salem, N.H. -- said that wider access to EHRs "can be vital in helping determine the best care decisions possible."

The mobile phone access is part of Anthem's expansion of its electronic prescribing program, which supports physicians' access to patient EHRs from their office or personal computers.

Anthem launched the e-prescribing program with the New Hampshire Citizens Health Initiative in October 2007 (Manos, Healthcare IT News, 5/8).
